One system that is done in different phases when it comes to new construction is the plumbing. This is usually done in three phases. It is important that you understand what the process looks like so you can make plans to move forward with your construction project. Phase 1: Underground Rough In
The first and initial phase of plumbing construction entails putting the plumbing system in place under ground level. This is the rough plumbing that is set in place. This initial installation of the plumbing system involves putting in the drain, waste, and vent layout. The plumber will be working side by side with the builder who will guide the process and map out where the plumbing needs to be set. Accurate measurements are crucial during this phase of the project as putting the pipes in the wrong place can derail the entire project until it is fixed. Once the pipes are placed, everything will be tested before the next phase of construction can carry on.
Phase 2: Above Ground Rough In
This phase is often called the second rough in or simply rough in plumbing. It is the pipes that are placed above ground but usually are found behind the walls of the house. There are various parts to this phase that include installation of fixtures, water supply lines, waste and vent pipes, as well as gas and flue pipes. The testing that happens during this phase includes testing to make sure the above ground rough in interacts positively with the underground rough in. Placement is going to be crucial throughout phase two as well as phase one.
Phase 3: Plumbing Finishes
The last phase in plumbing construction is plumbing finishing. This is done alongside other finishing phases of the project. The plumbers will be setting the toilet flanges, installing sinks and washing machines, and connection drains to appliances. Bathtubs and showers will also be set in their rightful places during this phase. Another aspect of plumbing finishes includes getting the water heater placed and hot water introduced into the plumbing system. Every aspect of these plumbing finishes will be tested to ensure there aren’t any leaks occurring, the hot water is working well, and other aspects of the plumbing system have been installed properly.
