When you have decided to build a pole barn on your property, it can be exciting to think of all the storage and space you will soon be able to enjoy. However, there is a lot that goes into the process from the time that you choose the barn you would like to construct, prepare the site, and then build it. The biggest thing that you need to pay particularly close attention to is the site prep. Pole Barn Site Prep Process

There is an entire process that goes into constructing a pole barn just like any other construction process. A good deal of preparation goes into the site. After all, this is the foundation for which you’re building an entire barn. Here is what the process looks like:
– Staking & Measuring: The first thing that needs to be done is the staking and measuring for your pole barn. You want to have it mapped out perfectly on your property before you get started. This is going to involved a lot of measuring to make sure you get it just right. Once you have it measured out, stakes will mark the outline of the building on the property.
– Removing Brush: There is likely going to be some brush that needs to be removed before construction can happen as well. This includes trees, bushes, grasses, shrubs and anything else that is growing in the soil.
– Clearing Top Soil: Once the brush is removed, there is going to be a lot of organic matter found in the top soil. This is going to need to be removed to get started on building the pole barn. If this isn’t removed, it can create an unstable foundation for your barn. That will lead to foundation cracks and other damage.
– Bringing in Fill Material: The fill material that is most often used for pole barn construction is sand or fine gravel. This will need to be brought in once the top soil has been removed completely. It will not only need to be smoothed completely but packed down tight to create a solid base for your foundation. This fill material is brought up 6-12 inches above the surrounding grade to help avoid puddles and water issues.
– Grading the Site: Finally, the site will need to be graded. This grading should be a slop of at least 5% to avoid issues with with water down the road. Proper drainage is the key to any construction.
