As a homeowner, there is always some maintenance that needs to be attended to. It is incredibly important that you are doing this routine maintenance to help you avoid large issues down the road. Even those that are doing regular and scheduled maintenance on their homes, are going to have plumbing fixtures that wear out throughout time. Knowing how long you can rely on your plumbing fixtures to last can help you stay on top of replacement before you’re facing a huge plumbing emergency. D’Amorie Construction is here to share some information about how long your plumbing fixtures should last you.
Water Heaters
One plumbing fixture that is an absolute necessity in your home is your water heater. Depending on which kind of water heater you have, the number of years you will get before needing to replace it will differ.
– Traditional Water Heater: If you have a traditional water heater in your home, you can plan on getting about 10-15 years out of it before you need to replace it with a new one. Some of the signs that you have a water heater that needs to be replaced include, leaking, rusty water, a sticky valve or a circuit breaker that is constantly tripping.
– Tankless Water Heater: For those that have a tankless water heater, you can get far more years out of it before you need to replace it. They are less likely to leak or corrode. Most homeowners can get about 20 years out of theirs or more.
Toilets
Another staple in homes is the toilet. If you are like most people, you won’t likely face a full toilet replacement for 30+ years. However, there are parts of the toilet that might need to be replaced before that. Things like the handle, the flapper, and wax seal will more than likely need replacement before the toilet. The handle, flapper, trap level, fittings and valves usually last about 5 years before they need to be replaced. The wax seal will last around 20 years.
Faucets
Most of the time, people don’t necessarily replace their faucets out of necessity. Usually, faucets are replaced because the homeowner is looking to update their home with a more modern style. Replacing your faucets can be just what your bathroom needs to give a more stylish look.
Garbage Disposals
For most people, they can get about 10 years out of their garbage disposal before it needs to be replaced. You need to make sure that the teeth are in good condition so that it can properly grind the small amount of food put down it. If you have lingering smells or frequent clogs, it might be time to replace it with a new one.
